Somewhere south of 14th Street |
Today started with a work-sponsored volunteer opportunity, handing out Valentines cards to patients at the VA Hospital on W. 23rd Street. It was an awesome experience. The cards had been crafted by area school children, and were totes adorable. A bunch of kids wrote stuff like "Thanks for protecting are country" and "Your brave" and "I like your uniform." One wrote "If you have a wife, I hope you guys have a good Valentines Day" and another wrote "Because of you, we don't have a king and queen telling us what to do!" Out of the mouths of babes... (who are apparently well-versed in 18th century American history)
On the way back to the office I stopped at the Vietnamese sandwich shop to grab lunch. The cashier said, "Happy Valentines Day, Madam!" and handed me a complimentary Vietnamese gummy candy, along with my order of chicken meatballs. Well thank you, kind sir!
After work, I met up with some gal-pals for margaritas and tater tots at Trailer Park. We talked trashy TV, workplace drama, and then they came up with a GENIUS plan to help me survive an event I've been dreading. GENIUS. Lifesavers, them.
Not half-bad for a Monday. Especially this Monday. I feel the love.
